SERVING MAYWOOD SINCE 1951
Families left devastated after the tragic loss of the breadwinner led Father Michael J. McGivney, a priest from St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut, to organize a group of men to provide financial and other aid to these families. Calling themselves the Knights of Columbus (named in honor of Christopher Columbus), this group provided aid and assistance to sick, disabled and needy members and their families.
On March 29, 1882, the Connecticut legislature officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society.
Today, the Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic fraternal order society with over 1.8 million members in 15,000 councils worldwide.
Exemplifying the basic principles of charity, unity and fraternity, the Our Lady Queen of Peace Council 3426 has been proudly serving the Maywood, NJ community through high school and college scholarships, food drives, youth athletic sponsorships (MYAA & MRPGS) and much more since 1951!
